MAKING THE CUT: FARMHOUSE WITH EDGE

Farmhouse styled furniture has become popular in hospitality interiors recently, largely due to the phenomenon of casual dining.

Historically the style was reserved for pubs and country clubs but the laid-back aesthetic of farmhouse furniture which is steeped in history, perfectly fits the eclectic nature of contemporary restaurants and bars. Farmhouse chairs specifically, mix well with industrial themed pieces and due to them being made in full from solid wood’s such as ash or beech, they can be painted or stained to match many themes. Bold RAL colours are often chosen for a truly modern look, such as those chosen for our Modern Farmhouse range shots.

Recently we explored the W. Range from Billiani a reinvention of the classic Windsor, a chair with hundreds of variations. One such variation is the Wycombe styled Windsor, a classic style on which the Cut is based, another new design for 2015.The Wycombe styled Windsor hails from the nineteenth century. Its heavy wooden crest rail in the form of a slightly arched, round-ended horizontal panel was mounted on two stiles with spindles or laths between. The name of this style of Windsor refers to the district that was a major source of production in the 1840’s.

We sourced the Cut from Salone del Mobile, Milan, in April 2015 and experienced its qualities first hand – a solid chair with a good deal of weight behind it, it is perfect for a high-end venue which is looking to add a modern/casual vibe to its interior without compromising on quality. The bi-colour finish is stunning and truly produces a unique result, unlike any other chair we have come across in recent years.

Made in one of Italy’s most renowned factories in the Premariacco district by master craftsmen which have been manufacturing solid wood furniture since the 1970’s, the Cut is made using an evolved production process which is as delicate as it is complex.

Made from solid ash wood, it features spindles that are shaped in the rear and clean cut at the front. The distinctive frame is available in a number of different finishes – including a bi-colour version which leaves the seat and part of the spindles in plain wood, producing a strikingly modern effect.
