QUINTESSENTIALLY BRITISH VINTAGE: INTRODUCING JOHNNY MOUSTACHE

We are proud to announce our exclusive trade partnership with Johnny Moustache, a brand which brings the authenticity of vintage to contract furniture. At the break of the launch Johnny Moustache’s Contemporary range has already been specified by professional hospitality clientele as a tried-and-tested collection lounge furniture for commercial use in hotels, restaurants and bars. Its mid twentieth century aesthetic of British vintage style is perfect for use in a range of interior themes.

WHY JOHNNY MOUSTACHE?

After first rescuing a vintage piece of furniture from a skip in her teens, Sophie Gatehouse, owner and Director of Johnny Moustache has been continuing to refine her craft and niche skill – restoring and developing furniture with a quintessential mid-century aesthetic. Sophie studied Furniture Restoration at Leeds college of Art and Design and in the years since has built (along with her team) an enviable customer following.

The name ‘Johnny Moustache’ was born out of Sophie and her team’s desire to capture the sense of freedom and fun which the designers of the 1950s were aiming to achieve; the 50s was a time of reinvention due to the aftermath of the second world war, which left the British public hungry for modern and cheerful products. The brand’s name itself came from the name of a Seychelles footballer – it sounded quirky, English and fun – all values which Sophie and her team hold.

A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO DESIGN: FOCUSED ON REAL QUALITY

The pieces in the range have been created holistically from the team’s years of experience restoring vintage furniture, made in the UK by experienced craftspeople they are as strong as they are stylish.

Passionate about breathing new life into mid-century furniture pieces from Ercol, G plan, Parker Knoll, McIntosh, Baughman, France and sons, Dyrlund, Walter Knoll and many more– the Johnny Moustache team’s knowledge and skill of what really makes mid-century furniture great has grown and become a deep rooted set of expertise.

Many of the pieces in the range pay homage to well-known designs of the 50s. For example, the Clement is reminiscent of Milo Baughman’s designs, the laid back Californian designer who championed sleek and simple sofas. He had confidence in letting the materials speak for themselves – solid wood and good quality upholstery and button detail – much like the Clement.

BRINGING QUINTESSENTIAL STYLE TO COMMERCIAL VENUES

Mid-century modern furniture is enjoying resurgence as a popular choice for modern commercial bars, restaurants and pubs. This is due, in part to the phenomenon of casual dining in modern eateries – the laid back, yet stylish aesthetic which the vintage style possesses fits perfectly with this trend. Cocktail chairs and sofas fit well within a casual dining vibe, as originally designed for homes they offer a sense of unpretentious comfort.

The pieces are made to contract standard – with robust frames and joints they meet the demands of heavy footfall, so are perfect for modern reception areas and lounges.

Sophie Greenhow, owner of Johnny Moustache explains why hospitality professionals have confidence in the quality of the contemporary range for their commercial venues;

“we take old concepts and reinvent them for modern needs – there are many brands out there who are reinventing classic designs from the 50s and 60s but what we hear from our customers is that the quality is lacking – our contemporary range, which is still growing, is designed to fill that gap in the market for venues which are looking for true quality pieces styled on mid-century aesthetics. Skilled craftspeople hand finish our designs, which are dowelled and glued to a contract standard so we are confident that their quality and style“
