CURRENT TRENDS – RESTAURANT CHAIRS

Over the last few years a large proportion of the restaurant industry has edged towards the raw industrial look with retro styled restaurant chairs. This trend was highlighted at the recent International Milan Furniture Show, where we saw a huge amount of these retro style restaurant chairs making an appearance. Going for the raw industrial, retro look allows designers and restaurateurs to hunt for 1950’s and 1960’s second hand furniture. This allows customers to find a bargain in a second hand shop, or auction house and create an even more bespoke environment with one off pieces. Of course, being in high demand means these items are very hard to come by, and some may find it is like searching for a needle in a hay stack. If you do struggle to find second hand pieces then we can distress, style and age, any furniture to match your design needs.

We have already launched some beech framed simple retro styled restaurant chair models like our new addition ‘Kitty Side Chair‘, or ‘Heidi Side Chair‘  in the ideal £70 – £90 price bracket – often designers specify that these are with a coloured lacquer finish. We are also working on producing a number of metal framed chairs which echo the old fashioned school chairs which are so popular. We are finishing the mild steel frames with a clear lacquer to give the industrial look and the seat and back panels will be distressed solid beech.

Restaurant chairs upholstered in antiqued leather with stud work detailing is still very popular and of course deep buttoning on banquette or fixed seating remains highly fashionable for all types of venue from restaurants, to bars and hotels.

The retro industrial look will continue for some time, thanks to the popularity of big name restaurants – “Jamie’s Italian” is just one example of many.
