RESTAURANT DESIGN: 5 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

What to consider when designing your restaurant…

When it comes to your customers, you will only have one chance to create a great first impression. What do your customers see when they walk through the door? Can you see your restaurant for what it is? It’s important you can be objective about your business and don’t fall short on the detail. A little extra care turns your new customers into regulars.

1. Table Layout: Make your restaurant design flows. Sit down on every table and in every booth, space is vital. Everyone should be part of the environment, no table should be isolated and no customer looking at a blank wall. Consider space, don’t be tempting to cram in those tables. If there’s a table you’d rather not be sat at, change it around.

2. Keep your banquette seating looking smart: Make sure to clean your banquette seating regularly. Clean inside the groves of the material too, as well as maintaining table tops. Guests won’t tend to compliment you on your restaurants cleanliness, it’s just expected, but they will complain if it’s not tip top!

3. Space: If you’re fortunate enough to have customers waiting for tables, make it as pleasant as possible for them.  If you have the space, go for luxury comfort in waiting areas, if space is an issue for your restaurant design, bar stools are a must.

4. Know your customer: your restaurant furniture should reflect your food and your customers. Know your place within the market and choose accordingly. If you are furnishing a chic cafe in the city centre or a Michelin star restaurant in the countryside, your furniture needs to be chosen carefully. If the restaurant design doesn’t suit the food, the ambiance will suffer

5. Quality will always win out: Buying furniture at bottom line prices is a false economy. Don’t misjudge your customers, they will appreciate good quality fixtures and they will know the difference. Durable and quality furniture is a ‘must- have’ on any restaurant design budget.
