FAUX LEATHERS AND LEATHERS, WHAT TO CHOOSE?

We are often asked about leather and faux leathers. But what is the true cost of leather seating and how do they compare?

Faux Leather: If you are looking for a durable, high traffic, easily cleaned material then faux leather seating is the best option. Faux leather seating comes in a variety of colours and textures including metallic. Not only is it cost-effective as opposed to real leathers, but is sold by the roll, unblemished and is relatively long lasting – ideal for banquette seating.

Leather: The quality of the hind cannot always be determined, and blemishes are unavoidable. When purchasing leather more material is needed to overcome the shape of the hide and natural blemishes, which is more costly. However, over time leather will age which can look beautiful.  Do note that  popular areas of the seating will wear and wrinkling can also occur with real leather.

We recommend for every one metre of faux leather you would need to purchase 1.6 metres of real leather. On average real leather is around 40 per cent more expensive per metre.  Here is an example guide:

Faux leather= £12 per meter approx.

Real leather= £20 per metre approx BUT for every 1m of faux = 1.6m real is needed

SO  £20 x 1.6 = £32 per ‘meter comparison’

The ratio of faux leather to real leather is £12 : £32

The real cost of leather seating is up to 165% more than faux leather seating.
